What will the New Year bring? Do we have an influence on it? Or are we all at the mercy of what comes our way?
The holiday season and the gateway to the New Year brings the opportunity to reflect on our accomplishments and to ponder the decisions that did not bring us the results we expected.
TLN: Please start with your bio (current age, place of work & how long, how long in the business, where you live, family, etc):
Keith Lyall: I’m 40 years old, I have been in the golf industry since 1995, but have been in landscape and residential construction since I was 13. Currently employed at Sun Peaks Golf Course where I have been the superintendent since 2005. My Wife, Bobbe and one year-old son, McLean and I live in Sun Peaks, we are both originally from Kamloops. I also have a ten year-old daughter, Ailisa who lives in Calgary.

May 2012, the Special Committee for Cosmetic Pesticides released its report including 17 recommendations, the 16th of which was directed at golf but a few more are directed at applicators and may have an effect on how we purchase and apply plant health products. One important note mentions that the public believes there is a weakness in applicator training; MOE and Industry agreed that education and training could be improved.

Well, I think that was the sound of collective relief. BC politics is a funny monster; I find myself voting to stop a person or party from getting into office and not the party I actually want to see run this province. I will admit with all the efforts put into the Special Committee on Pesticides, I am glad to see this government will get four more years. However, the battle will continue. Our opposition groups are not going to stop lobbying government and the public and nor should we.

It continues to surprise me how fast summers go by, and seem to go by faster each year. The funny thing is when I start looking forward to fall, once winter gets here I want it to be spring again. I guess that’s a condition from living in so much snow.
