2014 WCTA Student Award Winners Say Thanks

12.04.24-WCTAlogo-grassonly.jpgUp to five awards totalling $2500 are presented annually by the Western Canada Turfgrass Association to deserving students enrolled in a full time Turfgrass Management Program, as chosen by a selection committee made up of WCTA Board members.  Award value is minimum $500 and winners also receive a free one-year WCTA membership.

2014 Award winners are:

Isaac Weintraub $1000 - Penn State University
Mathew Eastman $500 - Guelph University
Brendan Rutley $500 - Kwantlen University 
Landen Huculak $500 - Kwantlen University

50th Anniversary WCTA Conference and Trade Show Report

Our 50th anniversary conference and trade show was an incredible success.  Although a final delegate tally is not yet ready, attendance was better than expected with 300+ turf managers participating.  Supplier support was staggering with 79 companies selling out the trade show floor even after additional space was created several weeks prior to the event to meet the needs of increased demand for booth space.  This number was up significantly over the 62 companies participating in Victoria last year and is historically second only to a tie of 81 exhibiting in Victoria in 2009 and Penticton in 2005.

2014 Board of Director Candidate Slate

200P WCTA_BOARD_logoAny WCTA member in good standing may put their name forward for open Board of Director positions.  The duty of the Board is to steer the association by providing policy and direction to management and staff.  More candidates than open positions will force an election which is a good thing.  If fewer candidates come forward than there are Board vacancies, the positions will be filled through an election by the Board of Directors.
