Kwantlen Turf Club hosted their annual Golf Tournament October 4 at Redwoods GC. Hosts Peter Szarka and Cam Watt had the course in mint condition for the 48 players who enjoyed a great day of Texas Scramble.

The biggest news this fall, has been the transition of the last diploma students from our old semester program, into the first intake of new program students. As you may have heard, turfgrass programming has changed at Olds College recently, where traditional semesters have been replaced by single topic three week “block” classes.

School is back, with 10 returning students and 10 eager new ones. Tom Calder is leading the Turf Club this year. Fall fund raising activities include the Redwoods golf tournament , bottle drive, lawn bowling social and Grey Cup pub night with raffle.

Wishing them both the very best of luck, we finished the winter term at Olds College with two CGSA/TORO Future Superintendent nominees; Carmen Kozak (graduating turf diploma) and Franz Unterberger (graduating applied turf degree). As exceptional ambassadors of our program and industry, we are very proud of both students. We can also raise a toast to Ms. Stacy Reichert, who recently won CGSA’s Scholastic award of $2500 for her article reporting on the Alberta floods.
