Four-way management, what’s that?
After spending three days at a wonderful golf club in Mohnton, Pa., I couldn’t help but comment to the club’s superintendent about the friendliness and professionalism of every one with whom I came in contact.
Over the past 3 months I have made site visits to seven different golf courses that were considering rebuilding greens and realized that there are a few basic questions that need to be answered before a knowledgeable decision can be made, to first of all justify the rebuilding process and second to what extent the greens need to be rebuilt.

One of the seminars that I was fortunate enough to be invited to participate in, in the Northern California area, was held at a golf course which is hosting a nationally televised tournament early this year [2015]. The seminar was held in November of 2014, The superintendent [Mr. “M”] of the hosting course was in full attendance at the seminar with his general manager and assistant also in attendance.

It excites me to know that our industry is finally going in the right direction. This includes those who deal with the maintenance of sports turf and golf greens, the science of physical properties along with the science of chemical and water properties in maintaining healthy turf.

Organic matter, Mother Nature’s wonderful gift, is often viewed as public enemy number one by the sports turf industries. Organic matter, naturally produced by a grass plant in the upper two inches of the root zone, can be our best friend when it comes to maintaining a healthy turf.
