Nathan Wade Named as WCTA Director

Message from the WCTA Board

It’s been an unusual year for the WCTA Board with Cam Watt’s departure from the industry.  Gary Bartley, from UBC Athletics, moved into the Presidency role ahead of schedule leaving the VP position empty but fortunately, Stu Carmichael from the City of Courtenay, stepped up and has filled that role.

The unexpected juggling left an open one-year Director spot, but we are now very pleased to announce that Nathan Wade, Parks Operation Technician from the Sunshine Coast Regional District, has been named as WCTA Director.

Nathan has worked in the sports turf industry for approximately 25 years, having been involved in the construction, grow-in, and maintenance of golf courses in the Okanagan, Kootenays, Sunshine Coast, and New Zealand and is now incorporating lessons learned to improve the sustainability of sports field management.

Nathan wanted to share the following with all WCTA members:

“Along the way I've met so many amazing people and like many of you who are reading this now, I am passionate about our sports turf industry and always take the opportunity to share how what we do benefits our communities.

I strive to continually learn and share information on how we can improve our cultural practices and operations to address the unique challenges we all face on our diverse properties.

I'm honoured to help represent such a diverse and talented group of people.  I have always been amazed at how generous everyone in this industry has been of their time to share their experiences of successes and/or failures with fellow colleagues.  My goal is to help facilitate more communication and foster strong relationships amongst us all.

I look forward to meeting those of you I haven't met yet and for those who I do know, I can't wait to catch up and share a laugh in person, hopefully one day soon.”

As the dad of two young boys, Nathan keeps very busy outside of work coaching sports, mountain biking and generally trying to enjoy family life with everything the Sunshine Coast lifestyle has to offer.

Nathan’s first Board meeting experience takes place June 10th but frankly, we’re not sure how the rest of the Directors will be able to keep up!
