Announcing the WCTA Inaugural 'Fore and On the Turf' Golf Tourney!
By WCTA Staff
For sure, we're going to work on a better name over the coming months, but in the meantime, we are pleased to announce a brand new golf outing planned for May 28th, 2026 taking place at The Redwoods Golf Course in Langley, BC.
Host Superintendent Peter Szarka, already has the course blocked off for this fun, fundraiser event and apparently he'll be putting a new set of tires on the beverage cart in advance of our arrival (extra-thick sidewalls for heavy loads).
Not unfamiliar to organizing golf events, retired KPU Turf Management Lead Instructor, Stan Kazymerchyk, is taking charge of this production because he says, "I've got nothing better to do."
Stan Kaz, left, with one of his 7 green jackets (all from Winners)
On a more serious note, Peter Sorokovsky, WCTA long-time Research Chair stated, "For years, we've discussed putting on a golf tournament to help fund turf research and student awards and while obvious for the WCTA to take this on, there have always been other conflicts until recently."
Cannons and camaraderie, what could go wrong?
So where's the first tee and what's the course record? This is a very preliminary heads-up so don't worry about that just yet. A much more formal post for registrations and tee sponsors will be circulated months before the event but if you participated in the Dooley Tourney in previous years, it would be a good idea to get in touch with Stan sooner rather than later to pencil yourself in.
