IPM Manual Update Starting in August - Site Visits to be Conducted
by Jerry Rousseau
Further to my last article on the subject, published in April and called ‘Long Awaited Update to IPM Manual Gets Green Light', the long awaited IPM Manual update is about to get going!
According to the manual's author, Mario Lanthier from CropHealth Advising and Research, Part 1 is to be completed by end August 2025 and includes the following tasks:
Review of current manual: correction of spelling mistakes, updating the lists of pesticide registrations, minor changes to the layout, make a deposit at Library and Archives Canada.
Part 2, to be conducted throughout August and September, will be site visits at golf courses to document summer patch diseases. The intent is to add materials, this being the weakest part of the current IPM Manual.
On that note, here is Mario's call for your assistance:
Samples needed!
We need more samples of turf summer diseases. If something abnormal appears at the golf course this summer, email mario@crophealth.com or call 250-717-1898. I will visit your facility, take pictures and a sample for laboratory confirmation, then share the lab results with you (we are covering the lab costs).
The publication "IPM for Turf Managers" is undergoing a slight review. The publication is currently strong on the main turf diseases causing concerns in British Columbia: Microdochium, snow mould, dollar spot and anthracnose.
However, material can be added for the summer patch diseases, which also cause serious problems. This includes Brown patch, Take-all patch, Waitea patch and Yellow patch, as well as root diseases caused by Pythium.
Looking forward to your contact!
