Ashley LeGeyt Obituary

We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Ashley Peter LeGeyt, affectionately known as “Pedro” during his years in Mexico.

Born in Newcastle, England to Jack and Elizabeth, Ashley was the third of five boys—John, Chris, Ashley, Michael, and Phil. The family eventually settled in Manotick, Ontario, where Ashley’s natural charm and quick wit quickly made him the life of every gathering, a role he carried with him throughout his life.

Gifted with a green thumb inherited from his mother, Ashley built a respected and influential career in the turfgrass industry. He began his career in 1971 at Kelowna Golf & Country Club, moved to Gallagher’s Canyon Golf Course in 1979, and spent the next 30 years helping to shape both Gallagher’s Canyon and later the Okanagan Golf Club under the GolfBC umbrella into the exceptional courses they are today.

Beyond the course itself, Ashley was a true leader and pioneer within the golf industry. He was deeply involved in every association he belonged to, always front row at seminars, always eager to learn, and always willing to share his knowledge with fellow superintendents. In recognition of his passion, dedication, and expertise, Ashley received numerous honours throughout his career, including the Canadian Golf Superintendents Association Superintendent of the Year Award in 1988 and the John B. Steele Lifetime Achievement Award in 2010.

Ashley lived life in pursuit of sunshine, spending summers with Kelowna’s golf seasons and winters in Mexico. Cabo San Lucas on the Baja Peninsula became his second home, a place where his vibrant spirit and love of life truly flourished. After many years of traveling there, he purchased property and eventually made Cabo his permanent home. It was there that he met his beloved wife, Ylda.

Ashley is lovingly remembered by his wife Ylda; his sons Ladd (Christy) and Michael; his grandchildren Sophia and Benjamin; and his brothers John, Christopher (Judy), and Phillip (Shelly).

He touched countless lives in both Canada and Mexico and will be remembered for his love of the water, his generous spirit, and his remarkable ability to make everyone feel welcome.

Please join us in celebrating Ashley’s life at one of his favorite hang-outs, McCulloch Station, on Sunday, June 14th, beginning at 10:30 a.m.

Thank you all for your kind words and support.
