We continue adjusting due to COVID and in lieu of our conference cancellation, an additional WOW webinar has been added to our education programming that will include our Annual General Meeting.  Additional future WOWs are being considered.

For Feb 17, we’ll draw on two excellent speakers that would have been at the show, focusing on earning valuable CEC/CEU points for BC and Alberta pesticide applicators, and will include our Annual General Meeting sandwiched between the two, one hour talks.

Dr. Clint Mattox graduated from Purdue University with a turfgrass science degree in 2000 and has been working in the turfgrass industry since that time. From 2000 until 2012, Clint worked overseas on golf courses, primarily in Europe, where he was a golf course superintendent for 7 years. In 2013, he began graduate studies at Oregon State University focusing on managing turfgrass diseases in the absence of fungicides. He finished a doctorate degree in 2020 majoring in Horticulture with a minor in Botany and Plant Pathology. Currently he is a research associate at Oregon State University where he focuses on turfgrass research and education.

Clint will provide an overview, status update and present key findings of current OSU research projects including 30 minutes on carbon sequestration in turf and 30 minutes on alternatives to traditional turf fungicides.

Jason Pick, Olds College

Jason Pick is an instructor of Golf Course Management diploma and degree programs at Olds College, a certified pesticide applicator trainer and a Past President of the WCTA.  He is a graduate of Penn State’s Master’s program as well as Olds College and the U of Guelph’s turf programs. He’s also a former golf course superintendent who brings a lot of experience to his teaching.

Jason’s talk will provide an overview of IPM, cover various pest of turfgrass pests including insects, weeds and diseases and finish with a look at municipal pesticide restrictions that have become more commonplace in recent years.
