2014 West Coast Sportsfield Training Day August 20th Cloverdale Athletic Park - One week away!

12.04.24-WCTAlogo-grassonly.jpgSurrey Parks, in conjunction with the WCTA, is hosting the “2014 West Coast Sportsfield Training Day and Landscape Rodeo” to be held Wednesday, August 20th in Surrey BC.

This event is a one day combination of a morning education session, hands on field maintenance demonstrations and afternoon “Fun” landscape competitions among attendees.  The morning classroom presentation will take place at the Cloverdale Recreation Centre (6188 - 176th Street, Surrey BC).    The remainder of the day’s activities will be located at Cloverdale Athletic Park (6330 168th Street, Surrey BC).

As a component to the afternoon landscape rodeo competitions, the organizing committee will be selecting 6-8 competitive events, voluntarily submitted by vendors and the City of Surrey, that will be operated in a safe and fun environment for attendees wishing to participate.  This session is designed to engage delegates in hands-on sports turf related activities, in the spirit of friendly competition, as well as, promote critical thinking for improved future service delivery systems.

Here’s the day’s schedule:

8:00 – 8:30 AM 
Registration and Welcome at “Cloverdale Recreation Centre” 2nd  Floor – located at: 6188 - 176th Street, Surrey BC  Coffee and Snacks provided by Premier Pacific Seeds.   

8:30 – 9:45 AM 
EDUCATION SESSION  - Getting your sports fields ready for a major event – Mike Hebrard – “Athletic Field Design”  

9:45 – 10:30 AM  
Travel to Cloverdale Athletic Park  located at: 6330 168th Street, Surrey BC   

10:30 - Noon 
Hands-on Sports Field maintenance demonstrations with Mike Hebrard “ Athletic Field Design”   

Noon - 13:00  
Vendor and Equipment Show along with Lunch.  Lunch sponsored by “Corix Water Products”  

13:00 – 14:30  
Landscape “Fun” Competitions and Equipment Rodeo   - Attendees to test their skills in a safe and fun environment.  Learning outcomes are optional!  Prizes for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. place for all events.   - Landscape Rodeo Examples:  Mowing course, straights lines, mower obstacle course, Line marking; straight lines blindfolded, Truck and Trailer obstacle course, loader egg transport,  Sprinkler Controller Schedule Set-up (race against time), etc.
