Based on funds raised in 2016, cash available to the Research Committee for 2017 projects is a little over $10,000. As recommended by the Research Committee, the WCTA Board is pleased to announce $21,000 in approved 2017 Turf Research project funding as follows (difference will be made up from reserves):

The Northwest Turfgrass Association donated nearly $50,000 to worthy turfgrass research and education programs in 2016 as it continues to be a leading benefactor for the golf industry in the Northwest. The total in grants awarded in 2016 was $49,560.34. It didn’t reach the $61,000 awarded in 2015, but was substantially higher than the $29,500 awarded in 2014.
The Canadian Allied Turfgrass Research is a collaborative group of Canadian turfgrass funding associations that have formed an alliance for the annual call for proposals of Canadian turfgrass research grants. The participating associations include:

Anthracnose is an important turfgrass disease caused by the fungal pathogen Colletotrichum graminicola that is particularly damaging to annual bluegrass putting greens, especially during periods of heat and drought stress under low nitrogen fertility conditions and low mowing heights.
